SMS Messaging & Consent

Summary

Just Chicken In sends SMS safety alerts from a toll-free number registered and verified with U.S. wireless carriers. Messages are sent only to emergency contacts who have given permission in advance. We do not send marketing or promotional messages.

Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out at any time. Reply HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply.

Who we send messages to

You may receive SMS safety alerts from Just Chicken In if:

• Someone listed you as an emergency contact and you gave them permission to receive SMS safety alerts from the service
• A missed check-in triggered an automatic alert
• A Just Chicken In user manually sent an alert

Messages are sent only in connection with safety notifications and consent confirmations.

Consent and opt-in

Emergency contacts must provide permission before their phone number is added to the service and before any SMS is sent. Our consent flow works as follows:

• The user obtains permission from the contact (for example, asking in person or by text).
• Before saving the phone number, the app requires the user to affirm that the contact has agreed to receive SMS safety alerts from Just Chicken In.
• The user's affirmation and the timestamp of confirmation are stored on our server.
• SMS safety alerts are sent only after that confirmation is on file.
• If a contact replies STOP, their opt-out is recorded and no further SMS alerts are sent to that number.

We keep consent records for as long as the contact remains on a user's emergency contact list, plus up to 365 days in our alert-delivery log after removal, for audit purposes. See the Privacy Policy for full retention details.

Message types

You may receive one or more of the following message types:

• Missed check-in alert — the user has not checked in by their deadline plus grace period.
• Manual alert — the user manually triggered an alert from within the app.
• Daily reassurance confirmation (optional, opt-in) — a once-per-day message confirming the user checked in on time.
• Reassurance opt-in invitation — one-time SMS inviting you to enable the daily reassurance confirmation above.
• Consent confirmation / invite — one-time SMS confirming that you have been added as an emergency contact.

We do not send marketing, promotional, or unrelated messages.

Message frequency

Message frequency varies and depends on the user's check-in activity. There is no scheduled broadcast.

Opt-out

You may stop receiving SMS messages at any time:

• Reply STOP to any message to opt out
• After opting out you will no longer receive SMS alerts from Just Chicken In
• You may still receive email alerts if you were added with an email address
• If you want to opt back in, reply START or ask the user who added you to re-add your number

Language

Safety alerts are sent in English. Spanish-language support for related messaging is available where indicated in the app. Contacts may reply STOP at any time regardless of language.

Message and data rates

Standard message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier and plan.

Data handling

Phone numbers are used only to deliver safety alerts and consent messages. We do not sell, rent, or use phone numbers for marketing, nor do we share them with any party except our SMS provider (Twilio) for the purpose of sending the message.
